Insights On DOD's Final Counterfeit Parts Rule

Many of these systems and equipment contain components that are ultimately critical to mission success. With the U.S. defense systems dependence on electronic parts, the increasing obsolescence of electronic component parts, the increased sophistication of counterfeiters and the source of counterfeiting coming from countries like China, the U.S. Department of Defense supply chain is susceptible to counterfeit parts. When these parts are defective and/or nonconforming they have the ability to compromise the most critical defense systems in the DOD. This is the finding of the Senate Armed Services Committee as a result of its 2011 investigation on the use of counterfeit electronic parts introduced into the DOD supply chain....
