Cicero's foundational role in the study, practice and teaching of rhetoric is universally recognized in the field. Variously characterized by historical accounts as a lawyer, a philosopher, a politician and an orator, among other titles, Cicero broadly incorporated the teachings of great Greco-Roman minds in his practice before the Roman courts and legislature. Cicero also wrote prolifically on rhetoric, and many of Cicero's works are still preserved and taught today in rhetoric classrooms across the United States....
