Bayer Sues J&J Unit Over Arthritis Drug

Law360, New York (August 17, 2009, 2:36 PM ET) -- Bayer Healthcare LLC has sued Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Centocor Ortho Biotech Inc. alleging that Centocor's popular arthritis drug Simponi infringes a Bayer patent on a type of human antibody.

In a complaint filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Bayer accuses Centocor of infringing U.S. Patent Number 5,654,407, which is titled “Human Anti-TNF Antibodies” and was issued in 1997.
