Bayer Sues Sun Pharmaceutical Over Yaz Patents

Law360, New York (January 13, 2011, 4:05 PM ET) -- Bayer AG has hit Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. with a patent suit in an attempt to block the Indian generic-drug maker’s attempt to launch a generic version of the Yaz oral contraceptive pill.

In a complaint filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, the German drug giant says Sun Pharmaceutical's proposed generic birth control pill infringes three of Bayer’s patents.

The suit also names Sun Pharmaceutical’s subsidiaries in the U.S., the United Arab Emirates and the British Virgin Islands as co-defendants....
