FDA Issues Safety Warning On Teva's Generic Prevacid

Law360, New York (April 15, 2011, 4:48 PM ET) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday issued a safety alert for Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.’s generic version of ulcer and gastric reflux drug Prevacid SoluTab, saying the tablets do not completely disintegrate and can cause emergency blockages in feeding tubes.

The alert says that Teva’s lansoprazole delayed-release orally disintegrating tablets fail to fully disintegrate in water and form into clumps. The FDA says that when the the drug is administered as a suspension through a feeding tube or a syringe, the clumps can adhere...
