Pfizer Must Pay $45M In Menopause Drug Suits: Pa. Court

Law360, New York (January 04, 2012, 5:15 PM ET) -- Pfizer Inc. must pay $45 million in damages to two women in a pair of suits claiming menopause drugs made by Pfizer units Wyeth Inc. and Pharmacia & Upjohn Inc. gave them breast cancer, a Pennsylvania appeals court ruled Tuesday.

In two separate rulings, the appeals court rejected Pfizer's arguments that its compliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration standards insulated it from punitive damages in litigation over hormone replacement drugs Prempro and Provera.
