West Penn Lambasts UPMC's 'Bogus' Antitrust Claims

Law360, New York (July 02, 2012, 6:58 PM ET) -- West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc. accused rival University of Pittsburgh Medical Center of trying to manipulate the antitrust laws to protect its own monopoly, urging a federal court Friday to ax the hospital group's latest counterclaims from the long-running dispute.

West Penn, which is in the midst of a $475 million merger with insurer and former UPMC business partner Highmark Inc., laid into UPMC in a motion to dismiss, accusing the company of seeking to "turn antitrust law on its head."
