Calif. Court Sides With Blue Shield In Maternity Coverage Feud

Law360, New York (August 16, 2012, 2:08 PM ET) -- A California appeals court on Wednesday upheld the dismissal of a putative class action claiming insurer Blue Shield of California improperly sold single men health care plans that included premiums for unnecessary maternity coverage, agreeing the plaintiff hadn’t shown any wrongdoing.

Named plaintiff Al Van Slyke claimed that California Physicians’ Service — doing business as BSC — owed him a duty to disclose that his plan had maternity coverage for which an additional premium was being charged and that other plans were available without such coverage....
