Guidant Defibrillator Deal Expanded To $240M

Law360, New York (November 19, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- Boston Scientific Corp. upped its settlement in the product liability multidistrict litigation over faulty Guidant Corp. defibrillators on Monday, agreeing to pay $240 million to settle claims from more than 8,500 plaintiffs.

After additional patients stepped forward claiming they had been injured from the implantable heart defibrillators, the medical device maker and the plaintiffs expanded their July deal. That deal would have had Boston Scientific paying $195 million to settle over 5,600 MDL and state court claims.
