Activists Sue FDA For Black Box Antibiotic Warnings

Law360, New York (January 03, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- A consumer group has taken the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to court to force the watchdog to strengthen safety warnings on Bayer's Cipro and other antibiotics linked to tendon injury.

The nonprofit group, Public Citizen, sued the FDA Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in a last-ditch effort to have so-called black box warnings added to the labels on all fluoroquinolone antibiotics on U.S. shelves.
