Medtronic Willfully Infringed Disc Patent: Jury

Law360, New York (December 08, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- A federal jury has determined that Medtronic Inc.'s spine unit owes a Synthes Inc. subsidiary $5.8 million in lost profits in addition to royalties for infringing a patent for artificial spine disks.

The jury in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee found Friday that the patent-in-suit was not invalid for obviousness and that Medtronic Sofamor Danek Inc. had infringed it willfully.
