Wound VAC Patent Suit V. Smith & Nephew Expands

Law360, New York (December 12, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Medical device maker Kinetic Concepts Inc. has expanded its vacuum-assisted closure patent infringement suit against Smith & Nephew Inc. in response to the rival's plans to begin selling a foam dressing kit for negative pressure wound therapy.

The new product infringes several of San Antonio-based KCI's patents, including three it licenses from Wake Forest University Health Sciences, the company said Thursday.
