CIT Orders Insurer To Pay $6M In Crawfish Import Bonds

Law360, New York (August 31, 2011, 7:53 PM ET) -- The U.S. Court of International Trade on Wednesday ordered Great American Insurance Co. of New York to forfeit more than $6 million in bonds posted to secure anti-dumping duties on crawfish tail meat imported from China.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection sought to take eight bonds, but the court ruled that the U.S.' claims for two of the bonds were time-barred because the government didn't take action on the bonds within six years of the liquidation of the imported crawfish, trimming about $950,000 from the insurer's...
