Hospital Group Pans HUD's Mortgage Insurance Rate Hike

Law360, New York (May 11, 2012, 3:35 PM ET) -- A hospital association urged the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Thursday to withdraw proposed premium increases for its health care mortgage insurance programs, saying these would put the program out of reach for community hospitals that need affordable capital improvement financing.

The American Hospital Association said increases of 0.2 percent for loans insured through the Federal Housing Administration’s Hospital and Residential Care Facilities Mortgage Insurance programs, proposed for fiscal year 2013, would raise the programs’ financing costs by 30 to 40 percent. As...
