Law360, New York (May 16, 2012, 2:29 PM ET) -- On the heels of President Barack Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage, a Senate committee Wednesday advanced bipartisan legislation that would grant additional health benefits to domestic partners of federal employees.
Sponsored by Sens. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., and Susan Collins, R-Maine, the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act would extend benefits involving medical coverage, retirement, disability, long-term care and worker’s compensation to same-sex partners of federal workers.
Such perks are offered by 24 states and 60 percent of Fortune 500 companies, and senators suggested the federal government...
