TIG, Fairmont Want Out Of NCAA's Concussion Defense

Law360, New York (June 11, 2012, 5:55 PM ET) -- TIG Insurance Group and Fairmont Specialty Insurance Co. denied responsibility for defending the National Collegiate Athletic Association against a putative class action brought by former football players who claim the NCAA didn’t do enough to prevent concussions and other injuries, in a lawsuit filed Monday in Kansas federal court.

The insurers, which now own companies that provided coverage to the NCAA during periods from 1979 to 1993, are seeking a declaratory judgment that they should not have to indemnify or defend the organization. They said their...
