Fla. House Shoots Down Medicaid Expansion

Law360, New York (April 25, 2013, 6:30 PM ET) -- The Florida House of Representatives on Thursday rejected a Republican member’s proposal to join the Affordable Care Act’s expansion of Medicaid, balking at a purported compromise plan to use federal money for purchase of private insurance for low-income residents.

The plan from Rep. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, failed on a largely party-line vote with 74 opponents and 45 supporters after about four hours of debate, in which lawmakers weighed the plight of the uninsured against concerns about adding excessively to the state’s health care spending....
