$3.5B In Defense Trade Offsets Reported In '08: DOC

Law360, New York (January 14, 2010, 1:28 PM ET) -- A new U.S. Department of Commerce report has found that billions of dollars in defense trade offset costs U.S. companies ran up in the past 16 years could have been used for their own research or to retain American workers if contracts had been awarded to other domestic companies.

Since 1993, U.S. companies have incurred defense offset-related costs with a total value of $49 billion, according to Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security's 14th annual report to Congress on the impact of offsets in defense trade,...
