USTR Prods Congress On Trade Authority, Russian Relations

Law360, New York (February 29, 2012, 9:18 PM ET) -- U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk told Congress Wednesday that the Obama administration plans to ask for fast-track authority to negotiate trade agreements later this year and called on lawmakers to normalize trade relations with Russia as it prepares to join the World Trade Organization.

Fast track, formally known as Trade Promotion Authority, will be necessary to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement with several other countries, which the administration hopes to complete this year, Kirk told the House Ways and Means Committee.
