US Urges China To Consider Currency Value

Law360, New York (May 03, 2012, 6:25 PM ET) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Thursday pressed the Chinese government to allow its currency to further strengthen against the dollar, a situation he said the United States considers "particularly important."

Geithner's statements, made at the annual Strategic and Economic Dialogue meeting in Beijing, came amid rising pressure from lawmakers and domestic industry over the long-standing accusation that China's government artificially suppresses the value of the yuan to give Chinese exports an edge on the world market.
