Myanmar's Suu Kyi Backs McCain's Call To Ease Sanctions

Law360, New York (May 15, 2012, 7:32 PM ET) -- Myanmar opposition leader and former dissident Aung San Suu Kyi on Tuesday gave a guarded endorsement to Sen. John McCain's statements that the U.S. should suspend sanctions against the formerly autocratic country.

The longtime political prisoner and Nobel Peace Prize winner said the Arizona senator's plan to suspend but not lift the sanctions, much as the European Union has done, would allow U.S. to reward sweeping democratic reforms in Myanmar — also known as Burma — without giving up its leverage to force more change....
