FDA Says Korean Shellfish Risk Contact With Human Waste

Law360, Los Angeles (May 18, 2012, 3:58 PM ET) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has yanked South Korean shellfish transporters from its list of certified shippers after an investigation revealed inadequate sanitary controls that could put the shellfish in contact with human fecal waste, the agency said Friday.

The agency’s May 1 decision to remove South Korean shippers from its Interstate Certified Shellfish Shippers List comes six months after three Washington state residents were sickened by a virus from frozen South Korean oysters.
