Law360, New York (July 18, 2012, 7:30 PM ET) -- An international arbitration tribunal ruled Wednesday that the Canadian government had not violated a bilateral agreement with the U.S. on softwood lumber exports by underpricing timber harvested from public lands, according to statements from both governments.
The unanimous ruling by the London Court of International Arbitration puts to rest American claims that British Columbia had misclassified trees felled on public lands by a bug infestation, allowing it to sell the lumber to its domestic exporters at prices far below market value.
