Tierra Hits Qwest, Others With VoIP Patent Suit

Law360, New York (February 01, 2010, 2:11 PM ET) -- Level 3 Communications LLC, Global Crossing Ltd. and Qwest Communications International Inc. have been accused of infringing a patent for Voice Over Internet Protocol technology by Tierra Telecom Inc.

The San Diego-based company, which designs and operates Internet telephone technology and offers other products including prepaid calling cards, filed suit on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The suit claims that all three companies have sold or offered VoIP products that incorporate Tierra's packet transfer technology.
