Smith & Nephew Infringed Wound Treatment IP: Jury

Law360, New York (March 10, 2010, 5:37 PM ET) -- A federal jury has found that Smith & Nephew PLC’s negative pressure wound therapy devices violate two patents held by Kinetic Concepts Inc., awarding the medical technology company more than $1 million.

A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas on Tuesday returned a verdict that the patents covering foam dressing used on vacuum-pressure systems for treating wounds were infringed by the London-based orthopedic device company’s Renasys-F kits, and that they were not invalid.
