International Trademark Filings Down 16%: WIPO

Law360, New York (March 18, 2010, 6:07 PM ET) -- The economic downturn caused a steep decline in trademark filings in 2009, with international trademark filings decreasing by 16 percent and U.S. filings dropping more than 13 percent from the prior year, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization.

WIPO said Thursday that it received 35,195 international applications in 2009 under the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks, down from 42,075 filings in 2008.
