Law360, New York (March 23, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- In a blow to Cablevision System Corp., a federal judge on Thursday barred the cable company from launching a digital video recorder that would allow users to record and store programming on the company’s network instead of their cable boxes.
Ruling for the movie studios and television networks that sued Cablevision, Judge Denny Chin of the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York District said the device “would be engaging in unauthorized reproductions and transmissions" of copyrighted programs.”
