Australian Judge Allows Sale Of Generic Taxotere

Law360, New York (February 02, 2011, 5:33 PM ET) -- A judge in Australia has ruled that two generic-drug makers can sell a copy of blockbuster cancer-fighting drug Taxotere when a patent for it expires, denying a bid by Sanofi-Aventis SA to block the generic version.

A spokesman for Hospira Inc. confirmed that Judge Jayne Jagot of the Federal Court of Australia in Sydney ruled Tuesday that Hospira and Interpharma Ltd. can sell their generic copies of Taxotere when a patent for the drug's main component, docetaxel, expires on Sunday.
