Law360, New York (June 23, 2011, 12:13 PM ET) -- Smith & Nephew Inc. said Thursday that a federal jury in Oregon awarded it $85 million in its lawsuit against rival medical device maker Arthrex Inc. over a patent covering suture anchors used to reattach damaged tissue and bone, but Arthrex vowed to appeal.
The jury found that Arthrex's Bio-SutureTak, PEEK SutureTak, PushLock and Bio-PushLock suture anchors infringed a patent exclusively licensed to Smith & Nephew, and told Arthrex to pay $85 million for past infringement, according to Smith & Nephew.
