ITC To Probe Rovi’s IP Claims Against Vizio, Haier

Law360, New York (December 16, 2011, 4:26 PM ET) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission said Friday that it will investigate Rovi Corp.’s claims that Vizio Inc. and Haier Group Co. import televisions and Blu-ray players that infringe its patents for interactive program guides and parental control technology.

In a complaint filed in November, Santa Clara, Calif.-based Rovi and its subsidiaries, including Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc., maintain that Vizio and Haier produce, import and sell liquid crystal display televisions and Blu-ray players that “use inventions claimed in Rovi’s valid patents without Rovi’s authorization.”
