Stan Lee Defeats Latest Suit Over Comic Character Rights

Law360, Los Angeles (July 09, 2012, 8:08 PM ET) -- A California federal judge on Monday dismissed the latest incarnation of a shareholder's lawsuit against Stan Lee and his production companies seeking profits and ownership rights to Spider-Man, the X-Men and other iconic comic book characters controlled by Marvel Entertainment Inc.

Attorneys representing Lee, his POW! Entertainment Inc. and QED Productions LLC argued that the lawsuit was barred under the doctrine of res judicata because identical claims filed in New York federal court seeking hundreds of millions in profits and the rights to the characters' copyrights...
