Judge Erases $147M Patent Verdict Against RIM

Law360, New York (August 09, 2012, 1:09 PM ET) -- A California federal judge on Wednesday overturned a jury's $147.2 million patent infringement verdict against Research In Motion Ltd., ruling that the struggling BlackBerry maker didn't steal Mformation Technologies Inc.'s device management technology.

U.S. District Judge James Ware said Mformation had failed to present any evidence that RIM had infringed its patent for remotely linking mobile phones to a server, so the jury had no legally sufficient basis for its July 13 verdict.
