USPTO Prior Art Crowdsourcing Site May Have Limited Reach

Law360, New York (September 20, 2012, 8:12 PM ET) -- A new website launched Thursday by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that enables anyone to submit prior art for a pending patent application under a newly enacted provision of the America Invents Act may have limited impact on the patent system, attorneys say.

The site, called AskPatents.com and run in collaboration with Google Inc. and the question-and-answer website Stack Exchange, provides a forum where users can solicit or provide prior art for applications and offer input on the value of prior art suggested by others....
