USPTO Dives Into Software Patent Debate With New Group

Law360, New York (January 04, 2013, 3:54 PM ET) -- Amid a growing chorus of criticism that software patents are too vague and can hinder innovation, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday announced plans to create a new group to work with the software community to improve patent quality.

In a notice published in the Federal Register, the USPTO said it was creating the Software Partnership, which it described as forum for the office to meet with technology companies and other stakeholders to discuss ideas and experiences about software-related patents.
