Law360, New York (March 07, 2013, 3:21 PM ET) -- The New Zealand Court of Appeal on Thursday backed a ruling that Megaupload Ltd. founder Kim Dotcom can sue New Zealand’s intelligence agency for illegally spying on him for the U.S. during a criminal investigation of his now-defunct file-sharing site.
Dotcom — who is facing criminal charges in the U.S. tied to Megaupload's sharing of copyrighted content — wants compensation from the New Zealand Government Communications Security Bureau for its cooperation with local police and the FBI, according to the appeals panel’s decision.
