Trolls File The Majority Of Patent Litigation, Study Finds

Law360, New York (April 09, 2013, 7:37 PM ET) -- Lawsuits filed by so-called patent trolls now make up the majority of all patent litigation in the U.S., marking a sharp rise from just five years ago, a comprehensive new study released Tuesday has found.

According to the report, suits by patent monetization entities, which the report defined as companies that create revenue solely from patent licensing and do not make products, accounted for 24 percent of U.S. patent suits in 2007, but that number spiked to 56 percent in 2012.
