Harlequin Fights Romance Writers' E-Book Royalties Appeal

Law360, New York (July 26, 2013, 4:41 PM ET) -- Harlequin Enterprises Ltd., one of the world's largest publishers of romance fiction, urged the Second Circuit on Thursday to dismiss a bid to revive a New York-based class action alleging the company has cheated authors out of e-book royalties.

Harlequin said the appellate court should affirm a decision by U.S. District Judge Harold Baer Jr., who in April extinguished authors' claims that the publisher used contractual trickery to pay a substantially reduced royalty rate on electronic book sales.
