Google Asks For Dismissal Of Copyright Suit

Law360, New York (January 06, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- Undeterred in its efforts to create a vast online library of digitized books, Google has asked a judge to toss out the class action copyright infringement suit filed against the company by more than 8,000 published writers.

Google requested the dismissal on the grounds that the authors “do not own the copyright and/or electronic rights for some or all of the works.”

The company also said that it has a license to reproduce “some or all” of the plaintiffs’ works and that the suit is prohibited...
