PCTEL, Broadcom Settle Patent Suit Over 56K Modems

Law360, New York (December 16, 2003, 12:00 AM ET) -- Broadcom Corp. agreed to pay PCTEL Inc. $3.5 million and license a number of PC-Tel patents in order to settle a patent infringement suit filed by PCTEL over technology used in 56k modems.

With the settlement, Broadcom becomes the first company to pull out of a scheduled trial involving several modem manufacturers that PCTEL claims infringe its patents. PCTEL is hoping others will follow suit and agree to a license.
