Law360, New York (April 18, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- Eastman Kodak Company is the target of a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday in Delaware which alleges that Kodak products infringe on a patent related to JPEG technology held by U.S. Philips Corporation.
In their complaint, attorneys for U.S. Philips assert that Kodak’s digital cameras and scanning devices utilize JPEG image encoding protocols that are the intellectual property of U.S. Philips.
The patent referenced in the complaint is U.S. Patent No. 4,901,075, entitled “Method and Apparatus for Bit Rate Reduction,” which was issued in 1990.
