Charter Slaps Verizon With Patent Suit Over FiOS

Law360, New York (January 09, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- Cable operator Charter Communications Operating LLC and its subsidiaries have hit Verizon Communications Inc. with a patent infringement suit over its Verizon FiOS fiber-optic television services.

Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on Dec. 31, the suit alleges that Verizon, which competes head-to-head with Charter in many areas of the country, infringed four Charter patents related to providing cable services.

The suit claims that Verizon’s recently launched FiOS infringes U.S. Patent Numbers 6,684,400; 6,314,573; 6,477,182; and 6,826197.
