Pfizer Faces Setbacks In Patent Battle Over Viagra

Law360, New York (February 19, 2004, 12:00 AM ET) -- Pfizer has met with setbacks in Canada and the U.S. its effort to protect in its $1.7 billion erectile dysfunction drug Viagra from competition from Eli Lilly’s Cialis.

The U.S. drug maker lost a motion to block sales of Cialis in Canada last week. Meanwhile, a U.S. federal judge has put a patent infringement lawsuit on hold while the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office re-examines the broad method-of-use patent for Viagra.
