Panel Rejects Judge's Disability Claim In Scandal

Law360, New York (May 27, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- The chief of a disciplinary panel of judges said Wednesday that the criminal misconduct of a federal judge who was convicted of lying about sexually harassing two female assistants in a Texas courthouse barred him from collecting a federal retirement salary.

Chief Justice Edith H. Jones, head of the Judicial Council of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, shot down a request to certify U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent as disabled, which would have entitled him to be treated as a retired judge....
