Economic Downturn Takes Toll On Firm Recruiting

Law360, New York (August 05, 2009, 5:29 PM ET) -- As law firm after law firm announces it is deferring start dates for associates, consultants say that recruiting activity will slow significantly at law schools and might end up taking place in later months.

According to consultants, firms are visiting fewer schools, conducting fewer interviews when they are on campus and extending fewer offers. The change, they said, will likely lead to steep competition and great anxiety among law students, who are already facing an uncertain future in a troubled economy.
