Law360, New York (September 09, 2009, 7:26 PM ET) -- First they went after administrative and support staff, then they stripped the associate ranks. Now law firms are shaking unprofitable midlevel partners loose as demand for legal services continues to wane, according to consultants.
Unproductive nonequity partners are being shown the door at the same percentage rate as associates, said Jerry Kowalski, founder of legal consulting group Kowalski & Associates. But firms are keeping the layoffs hush-hush, and those getting the ax are going quietly, he said.
