US District Judge Faces House Impeachment Inquiry

Law360, New York (November 17, 2009, 4:50 PM ET) -- Judge G. Thomas Porteous Jr. routinely solicited cash from local lawyers, a New Orleans attorney said Tuesday at a U.S. House of Representatives hearing on whether the Eastern District of Louisiana judge should be impeached.

The hearings commenced one day after a judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia denied Porteous' bid for a temporary restraining order blocking Tuesday's proceedings before the House Task Force on Judicial Impeachment — part of the House Judiciary.
