Law360, New York (April 09, 2010, 11:49 AM ET) -- The U.S. Senate is gearing up for what is likely to be a fierce battle over President Barack Obama's pick to replace outgoing Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, as Democrats race to confirm a candidate before the midterm elections.
Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., on Friday urged Obama to reach across the aisle and seek Republicans' input during the selection process, while cautioning lawmakers from both parties that he wanted the confirmation battle to be a “thoughtful and civil discourse.”
