Senate Panel OKs Controversial 9th Circ. Nominee

Law360, New York (May 13, 2010, 1:11 PM ET) -- The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 12-7 on Thursday to report out U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit nominee Goodwin Liu, a law professor and associate dean at the University of California, Berkeley, whose constitutional views and lack of judicial experience have drawn Republican fire.

The party-line vote was a win for Judiciary Committee Democrats, who have faced repeated calls from Republicans to postpone hearings and delay consideration of Liu, first nominated by President Barack Obama to fill the Ninth Circuit vacancy on Feb. 24....
