Senate Spares Lawyers From FTC Red Flags Rule

Law360, New York (December 01, 2010, 12:42 PM ET) -- The U.S. Senate has unanimously approved a bill that would exempt lawyers, doctors, accountants and other professionals from the Federal Trade Commission's Red Flags Rule.

The Red Flag Program Clarification Act of 2010 was passed Tuesday, and states that only creditors that use and forward financial reports or advance loans and credit will be required to develop an identity theft protection program, Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., one of the bill's co-sponsors, said in a colloquy inserted into the Senate record after the vote.
