Cos. Aim To Cut Class Action Spending Amid Increase In Suits

Law360, New York (April 17, 2012, 6:27 PM ET) -- Overall legal spending on class actions will dip 13 percent to $1.89 billion in 2012 as companies eye cost-cutting measures even as corporate legal departments expect to face a slightly increased number of class actions from 2011, according to a survey released Tuesday by law firm Carlton Fields.

Although corporate legal departments anticipate roughly 5.4 class action matters per company in 2012, an uptick from 4.4 last year, 57 percent of corporate legal departments are taking steps to slash class action expenditures, according to the survey...
